The condition of Bhai Vaidya, former Home Minister of Maharashtra and founder president of Socialist Party (India), is critical. He was diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas and was admitted to Poona Hospital on 26 March 2018. He is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of the hospital.
Dr. Abhijit Vaidya, Bhai's son and president of Arogya Sena, said, “He complained of pain in the abdomen a month back and was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was attending programs and protests even five days ago when his health worsened and on Monday we had to move him to the hospital. The cancer is in the terminal stage and it is difficult to actively manage at his age. Yet, we’re doing all that we can.”
Political leaders, social activists and personalities of various fields are visiting the Poona Hospital to enquire about the health of the veteran socialist leader. Dr. G.G. Parikh, Pannalal Surana, Baba Adhav, Sharad Pawar, Jaidev Gaikwad, Girish Bapat, Varsha Gupte, Kumar Saptrishi, Sharad Pawar are among those who have visited the ailing leader.
